Grace hawkins, Fence for Lu, 2025
cotton, polyester blend and wood
60 x 65 cm
'Fence for Lu' is the second in a short series of works appropriating local graffitti artists iconography, and specifically features the same composition as a local piece, which was framed by a window. The original, done in a skyblue spray paint is on my route home from the busstop. I hope for this quilt series to highlight the unique visual language of these artists, and to recontextualise an art form which is often seen as in opposition to what one might call "high society", which in turn is associated with womens-work and fibre art.
